What is the best website to search for certs from 1920 to 2016

    As above. I've tried IrishGenealogy.ie but it only has older records.

    Yep, that's because it's restricted for data protection.

    Marriages from 75 years ago and deaths over 50 years are on irishgenealogy. You'll get indexes for bmds on familysearch/ancestory/findmypast (all the same dataset) up to 1958.

    For anything later, you need to go to the GRO reading room on Werburgh St in Dublin. They'll have index books up to 1995. Anything more recent, the staff does the search for you.

    Do u mean marriages that only occurred more than 74yrs ago are on the site.


    IrishGenealogy seem to have very few records. The search function is clunky as well.

    What are people's opinion on the forum about the Irish genealogy site

    What are best sites for general engagement or married notices. The best I've found is the Irishtimes notice section.

    If you have a search through the forum, you'll see opinions vary on irishgenealogy. There are a huge number of marriages on the site, but yes, all from pre-75 years ago.

    As for marriage/engagement notices, it depends on what period. Newspapers in the 19th century will only cover the wealthier classes....Irish Times mostly likely to show CoI details. Irishnewsarchive.com has lots of other newspapers, up to the present day.

    Find My Past also have a good newspaper archive.

    Re the Irish Genealogy site we have a thread about it here. It fantastic that we now have free access to Irish civil records but there's work needs to be done to improve the site.

    As I have said before, it is worth searching American records for relatives who immigrated to find info about family still in Ireland. In NYC at least, many poor or working class people put death notices in the paper, especially the NY Herald, the Brooklyn Eagle and the Irish American Weekly. These often give info invaluable for the family back in Ireland.

    Thanks Hermy and Virginia, I'll check those sites out.

    I hadn't thought of looking through records abroad.

    I've yet to go through Irish Genealogy thoroughly but While was on it I found the search function very clunky. It definitely needs a better filtering system.
