License Mess

I have had several provisional licenses since 2007 but have never sat a test. The last provisional I got was in 2012, I have no clue where it is but am finally out of student-hood and looking to learn to drive properly.

Can anyone shed any light on whether or not I can reapply clean slate for a provisional, or if it's messier cause I have had about three before? When I got a renewal in 2012 I was assured that I didn't have to complete the EDT, will that have changed now due to some sort of statue of limitations? Any info at all will be very much appreciated. I will of course also call NDLS but thought there might be someone on here in the know. Thanks in advance.

Yep it is possible to renew your old provisional license and would be the best course of action as you won't have to resit the theory test again and the EDT won't be mandatory since your initial license was issued before they brought in that legislation.

Also fill out this form and get it stamped by the Gardai as lost before heading down to the NDLS centre- https://www.ndls.ie/images/Documents/LearnerPermits/D201_Learner_Permit_app_form.pdf

Thanks for your reply tyson it's very helpful.

I note this on the NDLS website:

"If applying for a third or subsequent Learner permit, documentary evidence must be submitted that you have either sat a driving test (statement of driving test outcome dated within two years) or an acknowledgement of a forthcoming test."

I'm pretty sure this must be my third or fourth permit, so I suppose I have to show them a test application before I can get a new permit? I will need a few months to prepare for the test, and I will most likely be relocating to Cork in the coming months so I'd be applying for the test there but practising in Dublin which is a bit messy.

Does anyone know if I can apply for a test and get my permit, but then push out the date of the test for a few months? Thanks again in advance.

Yep it is possible to reschedule the tests to up to three times before you are either have to do it or cancel it.
