    Hi,
our house is 1950s cement poured. There are no wall vents anywhere but in each room upstairs there is a small box hanging from ceiling. I imagine it original purpose was to provide ventilation but they are now all painted over so not much air getting through. is there any similar modern alternative that doesn't cost a fortune to install?

you can hire a core hole drill from most of the hire shops which will allow you to drill through the walls or you could put window ventilators on windows (look on flea bay)
