    Hi
I'm sorry you're not getting any relief, back pain, as any sickness can be incredibly depressing because it's painful and stops you from doing a lot - and even when you stop you're still in pain, no wonder your mental health is suffereing.
I had a cortisone injection into my spine in Beaumont last year and it's changed my life for the better, can't bear to imagine where I'd be if it hadn't work - I'm one of the lucky ones I guess.
If you've been through Drs already can you ask one of them about the chances of getting one?

You poor thing. I had a microdiskectomy in 2009 & 2013 and a fusion this year with a great surgeon Michael Kelleher. I dont know if you have private health insurance, but you say that you have been suffering for years so maybe it might be worth getting a more recent mri done and as the previous poster said, steriod injections can work for some people

Thanks for all the helpful replies, the pain specialist I saw suggested an injection in the back and said I should try an osteopath

What stopped you getting the injection when it was suggested to you?
I was referred onto Ciaran Bolger in Beaumont who then arranged the cortisone injection.

Asley Poynton (SAP Saint as he is known) is fantastic.
He did my fusion & a previous spinal op.
    He's in the Mater private.
Hes straight to the point, wont operate unless he thinks he really can get results. He also has great referrals for pain management.
Only for him I would have never got any relief having previously been told by several other surgeons & so called specialists that I was a lost cause.
The very best of luck to you

I second the Saint Ashley Poynton comment. I've had two spinal operations with him (a two level fusion and subsequent removal of screws) and if you saw me today you would never believe I had any back problems. The difference is phenomenal- for 18 months I couldn't stand or walk straight, was bent over completely. Went from work to bed. Obviously Had pain post surgery but that alleviated very quickly. Off pain meds after one week post hardware removal and two weeks post fusion. Amazing surgeon. You won't regret seeing him.

Glad to hear you are doing so well.
Mr. Poynton is way ahead of many of the so called experts.
I saw 4 others who told me, live with it there is no more that can be done.
I begged borrowed & scrapped the money together to see Mr. P & like you I am a new person following my fusion.
Best money ever spent & he saved my life.

Great quote from Twiggy there ' best money I've ever spent;.

I'm sure if you totted it up you've easily spent €800 in physio fees over the years.
I'd have reservations over paying for several more oesteopath appointments if your situation is extremely painful.
