So I purchased a second hand car from a garage. It was a UK car and the handled all the VRT in my name last Monday. I have the cert from the NCT Centre and was told I need to go online to Tax it.
I was not going to tax it until 1st Oct even though the car is on road since this week. Will I get away with it or will it force me to tax it from the day it was VRT paid?

Will not make any difference. If the car was registered this month and you had it on the road then you will be liable for motor tax from the beginning of September. Also with a recently registered car they won't issue the vehicle registration cert until it is taxed first.

You have 21 days from registration date to declare it off the road. . assuming of course that you haven't driven it.

This lets you tax it in October.

There are plenty of loopholes in Irish motor tax law but here there ain't. Tax from the day it's registered. And you won't get the logbook until it's taxed either.
