Having fixed reboot loop - windows 10 reinstall query...

I had installed Windows 10 on my Dell RF511, so not a spring chicken of a machine. It originally came with Windows 7.

While running windows 10 my machine got corrupted and had to restore to a windows 7 restore point.

I then tried to restore Windows 10, but couldn't as my PC had to be restarted to install important updates. Unfortunately my PC then went into a reboot loop and I delayed fixing the problem. I only sorted this out today by going into the registry and deleting the reboot key.

My question is... Is there any way of contacting Microsoft to get Windows 10 reinstalled? Once Windows 10 is reinstalled I'll be able to use a restore point to get my information (family photos etc.) or will it have to be purchased now because it's not automatically available for free download?

Your Windows 10 key should still be tied to the machine, so all you'd need to do is reinstall Windows 10, which you can download onto a USB key and run the install from there.

Getting your files back may be more difficult, do you have a windows 10 restore point backed up somewhere?

Yes, I have a Windows 10 restore point.

Is there a particular MS download site I can download to a USB? From what I can see all non fee paying downloads are no longer available.

    Thanks

Just go here, download the media creation tool. Follow the instructions for USB install.

Once it's installed, it might ask you for a Key, but click cancel (or later, I can't remember) and it will eventually check the servers.

Did you create a Microsoft account when you upgraded last time? If you did, then log in with the same account while upgrading.

Tried to create the media tool, got the below message, restarted PC and got the same message. Might be time to contact a professional...

'There was a problem starting Setup. Close the tool, restart your PC, and then try running the tool again.'

Edit. Got a message to update MS... see there's Windows Windows 10 upgrade reserved. Got all excited, but then told it was past the free upgrade time after clicking on it. :)
