Volkswagen Golf?

Hi, I'm interested in buying a Volkswagen Golf, a 1.9. But more people have been telling me not to buy one over telling me to buy one. I was told that they all leak oil and that a Volkswagen Golf is the highest percentage of fails on the NCT's.. Does anyone have a Volswagen golf and can give me their thoughts on purchasing one or had any experience with them before? Tnx.

They've been doing the 1.9 golf since the early 90s. As diesels go it's one of the more old school engines. There are a good few clocked and neglected ones out there of course.
