    Hi,

I am intending popping the question to my girlfriend before the end of the year - November time. We are going to NY on a holiday that was booked months ago.

I have searched the forum and done some research already - I am leaning towards Central Park as its somewhere that I/we really like and could also look great with nice autumn weather. Any other suggestions for proposal or anyone done anything similar in NY?

Also looking for suggestions for the day/night - is there any amazing restaurant you have been to that you would suggest for lunch or dinner ? or somewhere for drinks that was extra special as well? There obviously is so much choice in a city like new york, which makes it harder.

    thanks for any suggestions

    :)

Just spotted this as I opened up.. Wouldn't usually be in this forum but I popped question to my wife in NY back in 2004 and have a unique one for you to consider.

Think Die Hard 3 and the Gold Vault of the Federal Reserve Bank in lower Manhattan.. You can actually visit it when booked ahead. I called them a few weeks ahead and asked of I could pop question to my then future (hopefully) fiancee in the Vault.

On the day she had no idea and the staff actually cleared out the school kids that were there in a school tour that same day and we were left alone along with about $50B of gold.. She said Yes! Staff were great and they were as excited as I was.. They said no one ever done it!

The best bit was that they then let us each hold a bar of gold.. Never got to that before as I had been on the tour there twice before. It was heavy!

Then we went back out and all the kids reappeared and cheered for us.. It was brilliant.

One for you to consider. Sat here now writing this at lunch with wife and 3 kids.. 12 years on.

Best of Luck. Hope goes well.

Awh this will be so romantic, anywhere in New York is amazing.. we go nearly every year around Christmas , there is no place on earth like it and it's so magical that time of the year!

I saw recently that you can propose at the Rockefeller tree on the ice rink, looks very romantic.. no body was on the rink & the guy got someone to take a pic from a far.

There are also the horse & carriage rides through central park - really beautiful!

Another special little cafe (me being a girl would love this!) is Serendipity, not sure if you or her has seen the movie , a really romantic one.. you would have to go and leave your name there and go back after an hour as it's so busy but so amazing with all the Xmas Decor!

Best of luck and enjoy every minute!!

Just staumbled in here. Top of the rock! At night. Wowzers.

    Wishing you all the best.

I haven't a clue about a venue for the proposal, but I'm sure you will come up with something amazing.

Anyway, for a unique and special meal, try The View at the Marriot on Broadway. It is something else. Wow.

I also agree with the Top of the Rock at night!! It is gorgeous. If you were going to be there on Nov 30th, the Christmas tree at the Rock is being lit up that night.

I went for a quieter corner of Central Park, it worked out very well - the Sheep Meadow area of the park on a nice day is lovely - might not suit in November though, depends on the weather.

Serendipity is a good idea too, we ate there but I didn't use it for the proposal - when we went there they sat us at the fireplace table that was used in the film which was a nice bonus - maybe they could reserve it for you if you asked in advance? We actually went to a taping of the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and then Ellen's Stardust Diner after the proposal in the park, but that was a personal pick and wouldn't be for everyone.

I would advise avoiding TOTR, ESB or the Brooklyn Bridge areas unless you want a very public proposal with lots of gawkers watching on (then again that might be exactly what you want..!).

Head to the Boat House in Central Park. Relatively quiet, city in the background.

Maybe somewhere on the Highline Park might be good?

My GF had never been in US but she always spoke about the Bridge at the end of Home Alone 2 a fav film or hers. So we had a picnic beside Gapstow Bridge. Its right in the corner of central park beside the Plaza on 5th.

My cousin proposed to his now wife had it all planned for horse and carriage around central park and it started bucketing rain and had to resort to plan B went to the M&Ms factory and got "will you marry me NAME*" printed on M&Ms and got the hotel to have balloons and roses and champagne in their room when they landed back from shopping and he laid the sweets out on the bed! No matter what you do it will be special! The idea of the gold vault sounds deadly!

I popped the question at midnight on NYE in Central Park. It was the only time I could get the city to agree to allowing me put on a firework display. :D
