Rural WiFi

    Hi guys.

Yesterday I finally got the Imagine technicians out to my house only to tell me that we're not in the coverage range.

I then borrowed my cousins Rural WiFi box for an hour to see if it was any use in my house. I was getting around 20mbps down and 12-14 Mbps upload with four of us watching videos simultaneously and about 8 devices connected.

My questions are: Firstly, am I better off just getting the AYCE deal on Three and buy the router separately or will it be capped or throttled. Secondly, does anyone have any experience on the Three 4G network over an extended period of time as Rural Wifi piggyback on Three to the best of my knowledge (my cousin and only manage 3G in his house). Rural Wifi are offering unlimited for 65 PM, and as I've read in the fair usage police on AYCE is limited to 60GB or so which a family of 6 would go through in well under a week I'd imagine.

Apologies for the novel sized post, any replies would be greatly appreciated

    Regards

'Unlimited' with a fair usage policy of 60mb is blatantly false advertising for a home internet offering. For purely mobile it's ok in my view, but not when something is marketed as the same as home broadband (with this clearly isn't).

Sorry the 60gb fair usage policy is on Three's AYCE mobile plan, Rural Wifi is actually unlimited.

Ive never seen the FUP enforced, at 15GB or the new 60GB.

I'm pretty sure that there are people on here that have used 100's GB on the Three AYCE €20pm package without a problem. That's why the Three network is so shyte, as it's being abused to hell.

I am thinking of trying out rural wifi but I haven't been able to find out what their coverage is like in my area (I am in north-west county Cork). It seems like they use the mobile broadband antennas so I don't know if it will be the same as what I have already. I don't know which antennas they are using (I am on meteor broadband). I have tried 3 and vodadfone's mobile broadband and their coverage is only 2G in my area.
There is no coverage map on the rural wifi site.a

    They use the Three network.

    They use the Three network.

Won't bother with it so. I don't know why someone would sign up for their service if going into a Three store and signing up with them is the same thing.
Maybe rural wifi use better antennas or something to pick up the signal better but from the look of their website that doesn't seem to be the case.
I was using Three's dongle up until their merger with O2 but then their coverage disappeared in my area.

Same here. I was with 02 for years and soon as 3 came in, the coverage fell through the floor.

I also had Imagine out and they couldn't get a signal despite almost guaranteeing me service when I was on the phone ordering it.

Its a year since I tried the 3 network having said all that. I wonder have they upgraded my area while I was on Vodfone.
