Stopping drinking tap water cured my heartburn

I just wanted to share my story for anybody else who might experience something similar as this was a frustrating last 4 months. We live in Portlaoise and since moving here 4 - 5 months ago, I started having heartburn. I don't like resorting to quick-fixes and meds right away so I began trying to cut things out of my diet and seeing if something I was eating could be the culprit. The Heartburn would come and go so it was tricky because one day I would have it and the other day not. After many months of trying many things my wife suggested that it could be the tap water. Now, we don't drink the tap water as it is a hard water area and we have a water softener so we buy 5 litre bottles from tesco but we do use tap water in soups and making tea. BIG MISTAKE! It turns out that the water or the water softener was the culprit. Now when I make tea I fill the kettle up with Tesco mineral water.

I am cured :) and thanks to my loving wife

We don't have a water softener, but the couple I've seen have had a by-pass tap so you can fill kettles etc with unsoftened water.

ETA Just wondering why they didn't fit one to yours.

If you use unsoftened water in a kettle, it covers the heating element with limescale within a few days

    something like this

Mod note: I'm afraid this just isn't suited to the Food forum, and the fact that it borders on medical advice worries me. As someone who has had a peptic ulcer in the past I know that heartburn can have many, sometimes very sinister causes, and anyone who suffers for any length of time should seek medical advice.
