Best town and courses in Tipperary for society and a good few pints after.

    Thanks

I was thinking Dundrum - what other course would you recommend and town or place to stay in ?

I think Nenagh could be an option. It'll definitely be the best drained anyway so you know golf will not be cancelled. Just off the motorway too.

Dundrum is my favourite course in Tipp but Tipp Town isnt the best spot.

    I'm sorted for Dundrum.

Need a 2nd course - but a weekend. Don't need top of the range - just nice enough.

So finding it hard to get out.

Can get out in Nenagh ?

Most afternoons would be quiet from now on. Early times on a Sunday probably a non runner though

Think there are open singles most weekends in October in Nenagh. Timesheets usually go live 10 days in advance on BRS. Usually busy with members and societies up to 1pm but quiet in the afternoons. If you've any problems, just ring the office and ask for Tom.

Clonmel is a lovely course, bit hilly but very nice to play.should be good and dry for another while. The town is a nice place for pints with plenty of good pubs. Thurles is another option but the front 9 can get wet around this time of the year

Not sure what condition Dundrum is in, last time I was there the fairways were burning up. I wouldn't stay in Dundrum either as there's not much there.

Thurles probably the best option, course Is fine this time of the year, decent town for pints after.

If you're playing in the next 6 months I'd recommend nenagh. Course is always in good condition over the winter months. Reasonably priced and close to the motorway. Usually a few winter comps on aswell

Ballykisteen at Limerick Junction is a nice enough course but the hotel is nothing special and Tipp town looks dismal

I am a member of Nenagh and as already stated it is a great course in the Winter. Dundrum whilst a lovely course is very soft and was pick and clean last week there.
Would you consider Nenagh and Portumna, which is only approx 25 minutes from Nenagh?

@ Fix, if you do decide to include Ballykisteen I would recommend that you make a trip to a pub near it called The Hideout. It's owned by the President of the club. Lockins are a regular occurrence there! I would concur with earlier comments on the thread about Tipp town though.

You could do Nenagh and Roscrea or Nenagh and Portumna as suggested also.

Been a while since I was there, but Cahir Park is. reasonably good good course & not far from Dundrum.

Just played Nenagh this weekend and was impressed. The course is in good condition and wasn't too busy. We were able to get a tee time no problem and a very reasonable green fees at €25

if you have organised to play Dundrum already , then you should consider Tipperary Town course as a second choice. Good parkland course and the greens are in exceptional condition at present.
As a downside I also agree with some of the other posters that Tipperary town is pretty grim.
