Can anybody recommend a good service garage in Cork?. Need to have my car serviced before NCT but also the Fault Air Bag sign is on display - a definite fail!.A good mechanic might be able to sort out the Air Bag problem or if not even switch it off until I get it sorted out after NCT. Thanks for any replies.

The NCT will test that the air bag light appears when ignition is turned on, turning off the light will be an instant fail.

I recently went to Munster Garage in Forge Hill. I was getting an air con condenser fitted, the air con folks recommended Munster Garage & I got a full service too.

Never used them before but I'd recommend, handy for me as I was going to Portugal for a few days and they're close to airport.

Others I'd recommend, Con Forde in Greenmount, Mark Murphy Motors Douglas Mills, there's a chap on magazine road that used to be in John Harrington ind estate years ago.... name escapes me but very good. - John O'Driscoll :)

None of them will do anything but what's proper & correct. No turning off lights magic tricks.

I can second on that - I have been using them for last couple of years without any complains about the work. Very stable crew, I haven't seen any rotation there at all, apart from the change from Mobil to Castrol ;)

It is the location that is inconvenient - basically in the middle of nowhere. But that was my motivation to visit The Boot's Specialities... ;)

Ardfallen Motorcare are good in my experience, they're in an awkward location (Ballycurreen Industrial Estate) but they know what they're doing up there. One of the lads used to be the Service Manager in J&P Volvo, and the other mechanics used to work in main dealer garages for other premium makes. Ger was the best, but unfortunately he's gone a good while, went off into cabinet making I believe.

Ardfallen have a terrible reputation. The main dealers the two main men worked in were BMW (their own) in the 70s ........... I'd be slow to give them a mk 3 escort for an oil change.

Well all I can say is we've been using them for years and never had a problem with them. If I thought they weren't doing a good job I'd have told my parents ages ago to go elsewhere (I live in the UK).

I know we're not the only ones who use them and are happy with what they do.

A colleague a year or so ago brought an e46 325ci up to them, the thing was using oil (lots, litre every 600 miles or something like that), they deduced it was more or less fine but they told him they had put in some oil additive.

Now 325s are notorious for oil use as most know but when it's excessive it's never more or less fine.

Anyway, a month or so later he brought it to another garage on my recommendation, compression test showed 2 cylinders with results dramatically lower than the other 4............ I can only presume they didn't bother performing a comp' test in Ardfallen.

Now the lads engine was in bits, they couldn't / didn't spot that for whatever reason.
    .......

I know we're not the only ones who use them and are happy with what they do.

You could say the same about any joker outfit.

One swallow doesn't make a summer, but that's pretty bad to be fair. That said if I had a BMW I wouldn't necessarily bring it to them either, I would have gone to MMW on Monahan Road, they definitely had a fantastic rep for BMWs, but I don't know if they're still active? Anything I see about them online relates to 2014 at the latest. Come to think of it, I don't know if there's any BMW specialists in Cork now (but presumably there is somewhere and I'm just not aware of it).

I'd say they are fine with services, brakes etc but I'd expect more from a garage. Their core business is recovery for years now IMO (not knowing their financials of course)

Tidy mechanical services fixed my beamer and didn't jockey me, had 2 different beamers with them. Mate recommend them when I ran into trouble in cork. Not a beamer specialist more trucks they deal with but they had the diagnostic equipment. https://www.goldenpages.ie/tidy-mechanical-services-cork/
