RTE through an expired Sky Card

Just a thought guys - I recently set up BT/Eir sports through an Eir Subscription using an old sky card and it got me wondering is there any way that RTE 1/2 etc could be piped through that Eir Sport subscription (free with an active eir broadband connection) as well - presumably Eir would have to do some negotiation with RTE or Sky

Wonder does Sky pay RTE alot to allow them to beam it through Sky - or is it just that it can be conveniently tied to a domestic bill and therefore be limited to Ireland.

Does anyone know why we can't have RTE enabled on an expired card ?

The only way is with a Sky subscription. Sky pay for RTÉ to be on their system. How much I couldn't tell you but they're not going to allow them on another service.

Do RTE publish this figure in their accounts? As a subsidised state broadcaster, it must surely be available? Perhaps on FOI request?

Considering Sky's prices went up (apparently for RTE catch up last year) then surely this would be passed back to RTE and could be offset against a reduced TV licence? Sky customers are basically paying twice for the same service.

What the OP suggests would've provided a far more reaching platform than Saorsat for those areas where DTT isn't available, but sadly no, money only ever pours into the Sky coffers and not to the benefit of the consumers.

Unfortunately for you that's not how it works. Sky isn't a necessity to receive RTÉ.

Sorry for hijacking the thread, but I have an old sky box being used for fta only. If I connect a terrestrial aerial into it will it behave like a combi box and allow me also watch Rte ?

No. It does not have a digitial terrestrial tuner.
