    Hey all,

Looking for a 5"-ish phone for a 4 year old so he can play Pokemon Go on it and stop stealing my S6 Edge+ :p

Given his age, it'll probably get dropped before long so don't want to spend too much on it. Main things I guess would be 2GB RAM minimum and 16 or 32GB storage for his games. 4G would be a bonus as it'll have an "Internet only" SIM in it. New/second-hand doesn't matter as long as it's in good condition

Besides the S4 is there anything worth looking at in the €100-ish price bracket?

You want 2GB RAM and that much storage in the €100 bracket? Very few phones you'd find for that cheap I'd say. Best look at donedeal.

Well that's why I said I don't mind new or second-hand if it's in good condition.. just wondering more so if there's any other models worth looking at than the S4.
Would look at Chinese models too if there's anything that'd fit the bill.

    You're about to drop €100 on a 4 year old's Pokemon habit?

Kaiser, if I see you bitching about tax or the cost of living ever again, I'm going to point you at this thread. :p

:p I'd rather spend €100 (or preferably less) on a cheap phone for him than have him accidentally drop my own!

PG is not something I'd be encouraging a small child to take up.

Lots of us boardsies arent their biggest fans now. Have to tread lightly there though.

I'd be looking at the cheaper Huaweis or an old Moto.

The AR features doesn't work on the Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 so don't get that one

I have a similar problem with my four year old looking for my phone but it's more for taking and looking at photos. Occasionally wanting to see a cartoon on youtube. How will you stop your child from being able to phone emergency services if they get at the keypad? (Sorry, probably a really simple answer to that question but I think even if the phone has no credit can't it still ring 999 112?) Or is there a way to isolate that function?

So far as I'm aware (haven't tested it though) an internet only SIM/package won't make ANY calls. You could probably also disable the phone app if you rooted it which should work as well

    PG doesn't like rooted phones

A phone for 4 year old?!!!!

Shouldn't be be outside playing? I imagine staring at a small screen all day will make him angry and tantrums etc.

What about Research launched today that shows that 16 year olds have the heart age of a 60 year old due to lack of exercise!

Hardly "all day" now to be fair.. usually while out for a walk (he and his mam do lot of walking) and the rest of the time he's busy playing. Unlike his Daddy who spends most of his week in an office or the car :)

But that's irrelevant to the question really. Have a few options to check out so thanks for those :)

Can Pokemon Go be played from a cheap and durable tablet? Do such things exists once they have SIM connectivity and GPS?

It can and he has a cheap 8" one that he's been using, but it's not ideal when out and about.

All resolved though - a mate has an old S4 he's donating (won't even take any cash for it) so that'll do the job (and I can still rant on tax/cost of living :p)

Though to be fair, gaming aside it's amazing how fast he learned to navigate through the phone/tablet and do things like clear the app cache to reset progress etc.. it's a new world! :)

I would recommend a cheap tab or phone without a sim and a hotspot connection to your phone and your partners.

That way you control the connection from your own devices - which you can turn on/off yourself - and save on a data sim etc.

Good advice.. I have practically unlimited data on my phone anyway (as does she) so may just do that rather than a data only SIM for this.
