The cynic in me wonders whether the fairly quick cut over is to help stem what is a very easy switch to Freesat, the more wideband LNB's installed for new customers the less chance they'll jump ship to Freesat after a couple of unpalatable price hikes....

exactly got it in one and the new technology is not very user friendly and you never own the kit.

On the flipside, when the box breaks down, I assume it'll be up to Sky to replace the box without charge, since the customer doesn't own it and only leasing it like with cablecos.

what would it cost for an existing customer to upgrade to a Sky Q box without changing their current subscription. Have Sky HD, entertainment and Sky Cinema. Could I just ring up and expect a free Sky Q box?

I was quoted €80 for installation and an extra €16 per month on top of my subscription to upgrade to Sky Q

Was that their best offer? I got the same said I'd think about it as my HD discount and price rise will give rise to a 11.50 hike on top I think.

Instead of upgrading its downsizing I'll be

no way it that worth it so. I wouldn't mind paying the extra 80 for installation but the extra 16 per month for channels/packages I already have is just not on.

This is an odd one - the 1TB box will be supplied as standard, but only the 2TB version supports Ultra HD.

Are they slitting their own throats for further down the road, when more UHD content is available but people don't have the hardware to receive it?

I didnt realise the 1TB box didn't support UHD so the 1TB is basically not an upgrade picture wise at all.
