Jobbridge

I would like to finish early on my Jobbridge placement. I have no idea how to go about this. I am extremely unhappy as I'm not being trained properly, not learning anymore and basically left with nothing to do for most of the day and when I am given things to do they are extremely menial. Employees walk by knowing I've nothing to do and still won't help. I've gone through weeks asking them for stuff to do and still nothing. I have no mentor and no one there to go to with my problems. I feel a little bit bullied at times into doing stuff and don't know how to say no. Any time I have tried to speak about a problem, they brush me off and say they'll get back to me on it and never do. I was told I would get the job at the end of it for the past few months but they've never offered it to me and at this stage does not seem like they will. I was very sick recently and have only taken 2 sick days since I started last March and when I rang to tell them they gave out to me.

I want to finish it now but I've rang different departments and they've given me different answers as to go about this. I just want to let the employer know that I'm finishing and for my payment to switch but I don't know if it's that easy or not. I explained to Jobbridge last week during my lunch break about what's been going on and they told me to leave asap and not to take that treatment anymore. But when I rang intreo they said I need to speak to employer and get a letter off them saying it's finished. Thing is I don't think the employer will even do this for me.

Can anyone help me with this who's gone though it?? :(

I would suggest looking at the contract your company and you will have both recieved look at the stuff on it and highlight what they aren't doing. Not having a 'mentor' will also help your cause.

I understand its scary. I've been on a horrible jobbridge before and was afraid to complain. I had the feeling I was going to be the one worse off.

I've had to leave 2 out of 3 jobbridge internships I have done for very similar reasons. I just handed notice to the person who "sponsored" me and went into social welfare and told them I left and the truth about why i left. I got my jobseekers back right away.

As above... just give your notice and leave.

Put your reasons as above in writing and go into your local social welfare office.

Do this as soon as possible because the longer you stay in this internship the less time you will have on your next one.

You can just go into the social welfare office and tell them that you are leaving because the host company is not providing the training agreed.

For some reason they always ask for a letter but you don't need one. It's very annoying as they expect you to ask an employer who is treating you badly even though they are not paying you, to take the time to type out a letter for you. These kinds of people are usually not going to go out of their way to help an intern, a person that they see as being basically worthless. And if you are quitting they are even less likely to do it. And also if they know it's for the dole office, so they can stress you out over not getting your dole right away.

you can tell the DSP you don't feel comfortable asking for one as you've been getting ignored for other requests. They don't need a letter I don't know why they always ask but I suspect it's because it makes their job easier to tick a box, etc and they don't give a toss how awkward it is for the intern stuck between the DSP and the 'host company' to obtain this paperwork from their boss.

That's part of the reason these schemes are so wide open to abuse: people are afraid to leave them because they are afraid of losing the dole, because even missing a week's payment is disastrous when on such small income. But, despite how hard they were pushing the scheme last year, it is completely voluntary.
