Doesn't include mobile calls to other operators

Doesn't include mobile calls to other operators

That is not correct on the Ireland Plus plan, the terms state:

Your inclusive allowance can be used to:

Make calls to standard Ireland landlines
Make calls to standard Ireland mobile numbers
Send text messages to standard Ireland mobile numbers
Use mobile data usage in Ireland

    Is it 4g ?
Do you know if they allow tethering ?

Is it a recurring €12 or just for the initial month with the sim card?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,257 ✭✭✭Yggr of Asgard

The run on the old 02 Network and it's 3G only, tethering is against the T&C.
You agree not to use the SIM Card or the Services and not to permit another person to use your SIM Card or the Services:
in or connected to any other device including modems, dongles and tablet devices, or any other way to connect to a personal computer, which includes using your GSM mobile telephone as a WiFi hotspot in order to connect to multiple devises, and any other form of tethering activity,

No 4G and no concrete date of ever having it, and uses the old 02 network now run by 3, same as 48.

Also note that if you are a traveler, there is free roaming for voice/sms on the Ireland Plus bundle in 18 countries:

    http://www.lycamobile.ie/en/roaming-sim-card

Austria, Australia, Belgium, Norway, Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Switzerland, Portugal, Romania, Hong Kong, the UK and the USA.

But you can not use your data allowance when roaming.

Big thread here last June. I used them for 2 months and disappointed, had missing texts, poor data speed etc. Switched back to Tesco. 30gb is useless when u cant use it

Thanks for the feedback, guess I will stick with Tesco Mobile

They might be ok for you but when Tesco upped data to 10Gb, it was a no brainer

edit Promo code invalid?? code works

Going to give this a go, on the 48 network and very happy with coverage, so assume LYCA will be same.
Sounds like a better deal for me than the Tesco one which I was considering.

This promo code only works if you order the bundle the first time. Otherwise you can use the code LYCA10 for 10% off month to month.

I've had no problems with data speeds on it. About 7mb/s and I've been playing Pokemon Go a lot all over Dublin with in over the last few weeks :) Extremely happy with this service.

3G only, no 4G, but IMO that is fine, 7Mb/s 3G is fine for the majority of mobile usage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 543 ✭✭✭NikoTopps

I find them far too slow, even in Dublin I rarely get over 5Mb. It has me waiting for WhatsApp messages to send which is seriously annoying. Works fine for PoGo though I admit.

You get what you pay for.

Network access is pretty poor, but competition is way more expensive. I wish there was network that would allow 4G at not more than 5E per month.

Also with Lyca you might discover that you can not call or text some people.

There seams to be an issue in which Lyca customers can not contact people who ported their original Three phone number to another MVNO like Tesco/IDMobile/48/Virgin.

Yup, very true. It certainly isn't for high internet users, people who stream a lot of video, etc. However for people with light usage or people like me who are on excellent wifi at home/work for most of the day, then it is fantastic value for money IMO.

Specially the €5 topup giving you 10GB of data (and keep the credit for calls/texts), that is ridiculously cheap, literally couldn't be any cheaper.

My OH, sisters and parents are all now on it and they are all delighted with it, haven't heard a single complaint. I think people who complain here on boards are the more high end type of users, for whom this isn't really suited. For most normal people I think it is excellent value for money.

One thing to be aware of is Lyca data is routed through UK so email login on a Lyca SIM in ROI appears as a login from a UK IP (not UKIP!) address and may prompt for a password change and / or login from a PC.

For the same reason Google searches are .co.uk instead of .ie.

Maybe someone else can confirm if services like IPlayer work without restrictions, again for the same reason.

Had an issue switching phone number to Lyca from Tesco. Basically needed to enter my Tesco account number in order to port over. Port kept failing "due to account number mismatch". Tesco gave me 3 different numbers on 3 separate occasions. Each time they assured me it was my account number, but the port kept failing. Obviously Tesco have no idea what their backend is expecting as the account number.

So in the end just asked Tesco to switch me to pre-pay and then requested the port with Lyca again and went through in 20 minutes :)

Might save other people some time if switching from Tesco to Lyca.

Had the problem with Porting from TM to Meteor. Two weeks of back and forth turns out you don't need the Account Number. You take the Customer number below it from the bill. In my case it was something like 1.123456

    Ported then within the hour.

I'm on this since June, find it grand.Couple of things to beware of

Customer service is HORRIFIC if you ever need to use it

The €5 offer for refer a friend is only valid if they don't port their number it doesn't say this in any t and c's and is a bit of a scam IMO

If you order a sim before purchasing a bundle the lyca 20 code wont work as you are not considered a new customer lyca 10 will work

Other than these issues its been fine for me and 3 family members, by far the cheapest plan available. The free roaming (calls and texts only) throughout Europe and USA is great but beware a data roaming addon is seriously expensive for most countries.

That is where the three UK 12gb data bundle valid for 12 months comes in handy when traveling abroad, as was on another post here recently

Actually their data roaming add-ons for most of the countries they cover are the cheapest in the market in Ireland, €12 for 1GB is very good.

There are 3 countries that they cover, you are right, are very expensive around €50. The Three UK SIM would be best for those.

As BK says this is not true, expensive countries are in the minority.

Anyhow there's another similar Lycamobile thread that offers similar and more advice and info.

    Perhaps mods can merge.

Tesco are fine, was with eir, meteor also,10 years, but too expensive for little data,am in an area where most providers have data speed problems, but so far Tesco are good,e15 for 10g,plus free calls etc,no contest

but so far Tesco are good,e15 for 10g,plus free calls etc,no contest

Lyca €13.50 for 30GB, unlimited calls, unlimited texts, free call and text roaming in 18 countries including the US and decent data roaming packages for many EU countries. Sounds like a lot of contest to me!

No contest for me,should have said, dont travel,so don't need roaming etc, tesco seems easier to set up,add on ,top up etc,my personal choice anyway, afterbeing ****ed about with eir for ages, just glad to get a decent, reasonable package

That is fair enough, but I don't see how Tesco is easier then Lyca. With Tesco you have to mess around with buying the unlimited text add-ons. By comparison (and I'm a former Tesco user), Lyca is easier, you simply buy the bundle you want, set it to repeat every month * and you never have to touch a thing again, all fully automated.

    * One downside of doing this, you can't apply the 10% off voucher after the first month, so ends up costing €15 per month, same as Tesco, while giving you more.

Hi... Just wanted to see if you or anyone else knows.. When it states free roaming, Is that to make calls to mobile phones back home in Ireland, or to make calls to mobile phones in one of the 18 countries listed?

    Thanks in advance....

What is the best way to pay your Ireland plus bill automatically...
It doesn't seem as straight forward as 48 months or any other network i have used as there does not seem to have an amount for 15 euro and then it asks you heaps of really daft questions about topping up...

Any advice would be much appreciated... :)
