Right, i've just got a new job... its a trainee position so the moneys crap ...
But its 50 mins from home mainly dual carraigeway and fast n roads,
And i'm looking at about 4 odd cheap choices... audi A2 tdi
    Toyota prius
    Saab diesel
    Polo/yaris 1.4 diesel.
    Cheap and reliable required...

Out of that list I'd go for the Prius. If you learn to drive it effectively they can be quite frugal. Small diesel engines are not as good with the MPG as people would think, also on the motorway they will can be fairly noisy at 70.

I was leaning towards the prius.. but wondered it suited mainly motorway driving... is there a battery replacement issue with older prius ?
