As an aside I often wonder what % of farmers regardless of age that use cattle/sheep trailers like Ifor Williams,Porter etc with jeeps actually have the correct license for them.

I thought it was if you had full licence before 1989 you got EB (trailer) by default.

    The laws have changed. BiGTIME.
Id advise having a look at the rsa website for the new rules re trailers.
If your pulling a trailer behind a jeep thats over the allowed weight , you will be done.
There r so many ways they can get you now.
No trailer licence, vehicle not rated to pull said weight. No plate on trailer. No brakes on trailer. No insurance to pull the trailer.
We get updated on these laws each year via cpc courses for heavy goods.
The rsa as opposed to the gardai r gonna go to town on lads.

No problem. Draw a rectangle. Then a dash out of bottom corner. One little circle under far corner for a single axle. Two circles for a tandem axle. Sorted.

The laws haven't changed that much for drawing trailers with a car/4x4 all they are doing is enforcing them, for the 1st time.

Many of the laws have not changed ,rather they are being enforced.
To be fair anyone pulling a trailer without brakes or without insurance deserves to be done.As does anyone overloading(guilty as charged on many occasions here.
The plating issue is a cover your a*s tactic with replating allowed plus trailer age and date of manufacture coming into it(well with agri trailers anyways.

Trailer law and interpetation of same ain't simple and some of it is at the discretion of whoever stops you.At least tractor and trailer is a lot simpler than truck and trailer and fifth wheel weights etc etc.

Where is the logic in choosing a date like that? Surely you either need the license or you don't?
