Has anyone has any luck insuring a car over 15 years old?

My last car was a 03 seat and I hated it. While the insurance wasn't too crazy. The car was a nightmare. Had to be repaired every few weeks, nothing but problems with it.

I want to buy a 99 Toyota carolla 1.3. I had one as my first car before all of this over 15 years old nonsense came in and it was great never had any problems with it.

Will any company even quote me? I am 22 with only 1 years no claims.

If anyone knows of any good companies please let me know.

    Thanks in advance.

I'm insured with A.R.B on a 16 year old car,and was insured on the same car with sertus last year.might be an idea to go to a broker.

You can get classic insurance on 15 year old cars, I have it with aig, but I dont think they would insure the toyota, they dont like jap cars as classics

Forgot to add, you need to be over 25 years old, so the op is 22 so wouldn't work for a few more years

There might be a link between your 2 comments. Obviously, I don't know the nature of the repairs your talking about, but they could have had road safety implications, even though I'm sure you had a current NCT Cert

Not sure it's my brain has gone into weekend shutdown, or if you've got the ops post backways!

Most companies have become more discerning as to the difference between a classic car and an old car.

His last car was 13 years old and needed loads of repairs (presumably still had an NCT) yet he thinks insurers decision to avoid older cars is nonsense. Just raised it for discussion

Another example of a nice facility being withdrawn when it gets abused. It will also happen with driving of other cars, windscreen cover and named drivers

Ah you're conveniently ignoring the fact the older non insurable Japanese car was more reliable than insurable one. I have you now!

A poster effectively said he had an OLD shltbox that constantly needed repairs, yet, presumably, he had it NCT'd kept using it on the public road.

Myself, I had a tank of a '99 Audi A4 that kept passing the NCT with a few tweaks. However, I felt less and less that it was as safe on the road as it should be. Luckily, I was able to afford to trade it in this year, but if I hadn't the money, I would have kept it going.

I know I'm drifting off topic, but some people think a current NCT means they don't need to maintain their car until the next test, I was one of those people
