Broadband Contractual Obligations

At the end of January I signed up to Sky Broadband, for a 12 month contract and with a special 12 month price, that was set to increase at the end of the 12 months. I just received an email from Sky informing me my charges will increase starting next month. They gave no explanation for this increase.

Can Sky increase my bill when I have a 12 month contract for a fixed price during that period? And if they can, wouldn t I be able to break my contract prior to the completion of the 12 months, since they aren t living up to our original agreement?

    Thanks!

Yes they can and yes you can cancel the contract.

Thanks for your reply, but I wonder about that. They offered me a specific price and they stated that price was good for 12 months, but they aren't honoring it for the full 12 months. Doesn't seem legit to me, no one would let me away with shenanigans like that. Time to change.

All the providers prices went up, its a wholesale increase. Nothing to be gained from moving.

Yes I can still gain by moving, lower prices are still available. I only went to Sky in the 1st place because they were offering a discount for the first 12 months, which now they aren't going to honour, but if the shoe was on the other foot, they'd make me pay everything!! Look at it my way, if i signed a contract for 12 month (or longer) at one price and then the competition dropped their prices, I'd have to wait out my contract period at that price. They "PROMISED" me a set price for the first 12 months and now they are reneging on their original offer. Even if they wait until my 12 months were up until upping the price, but now even if I have to go somewhere else for the same price I will, but I'm sure I will find it cheaper elsewhere and I'll definitely find it cheaper than what my price would be at Sky when the 12 months are finished!
