    Hello All.

I'm planning on install a Wood Burning Central Heating in a 3 storey house (the 3rd floor being a converted attic). No Gas in the town, and no back yard for oil tank.

3 Questions if you'd be so good in assisting:

    a) Cost: What price range would i be looking at? For a Boiler, 12 Radiators, Installation, Materials, Wood Burner (piping/valves etc..). Would around the 8,000euro mark seem right?

    b) As anyone installed such a system? And insight? Happy?

    c) Any tips on essentials, pros/ cons and what to avoid?

    Thanks in advance

If there is no room for an oil tank, where are you going to store the wood?

I have experience with a wood pellet burner for a small office building (3,000 sq ft) and it broke my heart - 3 years of one problem after another. Definitely would avoid wood pellet. Solid fuel may be better. We ripped it out in the end and opted for tank gas boiler instead - much more economical and cleaner. The wood burner had to be cleaned out on a daily basis as so much ash built up.

    Hi Zzippy

"tank gas boiler" ... Is that connected to the gas mains or just a bottle/ tank of gas?

A road runs at the back of my house, and a lane at the side off... both right up against the side of my walls... hence no place for an oil tank.

Ive a shed across the road - can store wood/ fuel in it.

Yes, a tank similar to an oil tank, so not an option for you. Lack of space really limits your options. As I said, I'd avoid wood pellet but others may have a different view.

Hi Zzippy. I always read that tank gas was not that economical for central heating, much dearer to run than mains gas and slightly dearer than oil. What;s your setup, rads/underfloor. What sort of yearly costs are you looking at?
