Hopefully this thread can be used to share some tips about the accessories that everybody uses with their golf bag!

How does everyone else organise their tees, ball markers, divot tools etc? I've a pocket that I shove everything into would love a little case to separate everything out!

Have a biggish compartment for a motley crew of golf balls. Anything from competition grade balls to the ultra I just found which will end up in the back garden.
Then a smaller compartment for two handfuls of 'everything'. Various tees, divot tools, ball markers, pencils, marker pens, coins, groove cleaners, etc. My current glove.

During a competition there will be also two more balls in there in addition to the one in play. A replacement ball and a provisional. The provisional probably a different brand to the ball in play and the replacement.

Then I have a pocket for car keys, purse, phone and cigarettes if I'm currently smoking. And another one for the scorecards for when I'm marking.

  • Balls in one pocket, tees/ball markers/club cleaner/pitch mark repairers (get one of each into my pocket on the first tee) in another. Wet gear in the big side pocket, keys and phone go into the small side pocket, and that's it really.

I really need a new bag. Any recommendations? Just looking for a stand bag, nice and light if possible.

A place for everything and everything in it place !!
Knowing where everything is in the golf bag including exactly where each club is really helps with 'pace of play'. How often do we have a playing partner rooting in their golf bag for something.
I have my bag well organised the night before , used to have a small sweet box with tee's, markers etc now I have a small bag that would have exactly what I need on the First Tee - 2 Balls, Tee, marker, marker pen, pencil & divot tool. Nothing worse if your rushing for your tee time & then trying to get organised on the first.
I use a Callaway stand bag that in one of the pockets has a clip to attach your car Keyes, very handy.most of the new stand bags are ' nice & light' but it's what we put in them that makes them heavy so a regular clear out of found balls etc is necessary.

Best thing I have, is a small pen on a recoil that clips onto my bag. Bought it in dealz for a euro and no more rooting for pens again. Other than that .... tee's and ball markers in one pocket, balls and gloves etc in the bigger pocket, drinks in the cooler pocket.

And another one for the scorecards for when I'm marking.

so, you have a pocket in your golf bag which you put cards in, but only the occasion when you are marking!

Firstly, would they not be better in your arse pocket?
Secondly, why would you not always be marking a card? (Obviously practice games and fourball/teams you wouldn't).
And thirdly, I don't understand why anyone would ever play a game of golf without a card in their pocket to get basic info from on the move, distances, indexes, maps, local rules etc (obviously you might be ok at your home course, but you should still always have one if a local rule is to be invoked.)

In a singles comp would be common enough practice in my club for one person to mark the three cards. Probably isn't strictly kosher but happens all the time.

Get a waterproof one. See sports direct have a Taylormade one for 160 at the moment.
I have 4 different tops in the big pocket tees and pitch Mark repairs in another balls and gloves in the other small pocket.
Spare battery in the side pocket for the range finder and drinks in the drinks pocket.
    Clubs all over the shop.
Clean the balls out every couple of weeks amazing how heavy 20 of them are.

Nothing in Rule 6 or it's accompanied definitions to say it is not allowed.

That brings me on to a point on topic.... no one has mentioned an important item that should be in every golf bag!

My summer bag is an old tour bag.

Big pocket has rain gear and an assortment of sun cream, plasters, spare battery for range finder, insect repellent spray etc.

One side pocket - spare gloves in a zip lock. Coins, wallet, keys, phone etc go in a valuables pouch.
Other side - Food & water.

Small front pocket has tees, a small zipped pouch with ball markers and pitch mark repairer (when not in my pocket), small club head cleaning brush ting.

Bigger front pocket has balls and sharpies (too many).

    Now there is an idea.

Also if you play in some inter-club comps (Jimmy Bruen/Pierce Purcell etc.) some lube can be useful.

Unfortunately my suggestion is fairly boring... a rules book.

Well there you go. Obviously everyone signs the cards properly etc etc. I have never seen or even suspected an instance of cheating so happy enough to continue with the practice.

In fairness though - best practice is for each player to only mark one card. Easier to keep track of what's happening.

    Copy of the rule book

at least €6 in change so j can pay my debts to my playing partners after yet another disappointing 30pt round. We play €2 for front, back and overall so I always make sure I have change.

Apart from that, nothing special. I just take it out of the closet and throw it in the boot of the car as I'm rushing out the door. If I've forgotten something I'll soon find out on the first tee.

    Link?

it's been done before so i'm not getting into it here.

Back on topic, the rules book.... deffo something everyone should have in their bag. Although, nowadays there is an App you can have on your phone... and your phone can be in your bag :D

Pocket for Ball, one for small stuff like spare tees, markers, pencils, larger pocket for rain gear, one for food and then a small pocket for phone and keys.

Night before a round I'll get few long tees, few short tees, pitch mark repairer, pencil, marker, brush tool and two balls and put them in the glove I'll use for the round.
Everything then goes in my pockets and the never have to go searching through my bag for stuff during the round.

    So it is allowed?

I would be more inclined to pull someone up over not repairing a pitch mark than making sure one person wasn't marking all the cards.
Neither is against the rules but one is serious and the other is nitpicking

Most important thing in the bag

    Roll of toilet paper

Whether it's strictly against the rules or not it's lazy and bad practise - how do you check your score if there's any disagreement at the end of the round if you didn't mark your own score in the marker's section??!?

The father in law has a little bag with spare pencils, markets, spikes which I'm going to start copying.

Spare battery for laser is also a must - and learning to replace the spare one once you use it!

For me it's.....(bag is a Ping DLX)

Right trouser pocket......two (golf) balls, some tees, large & small ball markers, divot repair tool. My current trouser. 'loadout' stays in a pouch in the car boot rather than the bag

    Left trouser pocket......pen

    Right hip pocket......card

Right bag compartment.....wet gear trousers, hat & rain gloves

    Left bag compartment.....rain jacket

Keys, phone etc in the valuable pocket.

    Large front compartment......balls

Tees, spare ball markers and other assorted stuff go in a small pocket above the front compartment.

The bag also has a 'cooler' pocket for drinks but I use it for marked up 'competition' balls. And small mesh pockets on the side where I usually keep a spare pen and food for the round.

I use 'Glide' for cycling and swimming pretty good for areas that chafe and less messy than most.

......book? There's an app for that :) I've found the R&A rules app pretty good and it doesn't turn into a soggy mess!
