    Hi folks,
Looking to have a low retaining wall built around house in North Kildare (garden is raised about 600mm and soil has been in place for 4 years). Wall approx.. 130 linear metres, 4 courses high (3 courses 9” cavity with one course 4” solid on top), pier walls at gate (double wall of 4” solids 4 linear metres either side of gate by 8 courses high) and two curved planters out from pier walls (8 linear metres each by 3 course 9” cavity, one course 4” solid on top). Foundations are in, I am providing all materials, hoping to complete before end October.

Blockwork: approx. 1800 blocks (1200 x 9” cavity, 400 x 4” solids, 60 half cavity footballs, 64 x 3” solids, 70 x 4” soap bars, 100 bricks) . Local contractor who has done good work locally has quoted me €1.20 per block (including his labourer), around 5 days work… approx. €2100, seem about right? Is it standard to charge the same price per block regardless of size; cavity, solid, football, soap bar, brick?

Plastering: apply 300 linear metres of one coat PVC angle bead to top front and back of wall, around piers and planters. Scud, scratch and final coat to front, top and 6” down from top behind wall (lawn will finish level to top of retaining wall) Approx. 7 days work. €2800, seems on the high side?
