    hi

I have a friend who is home from Canada ( for probably 6 -9 months) and rather than buying+insuring a car( their NCB has expired as they were away for 2.5 years) they are looking at a long term hire option.

Do any companies do this here ?.

Think a month is the max, but I'm sure they can get around that. It will probably be eye wateringly expensive but shur so would insurance be!

Trying to remember back to my days working in the business, I think you would be able to negotiate a price for long term, but the car would need to be changed / or go back out on a new contract , every 28 days.

    hi lads

thanks for that she was quoted 4000e to insure a 2000e ford focus , mental as we all know and agree. I will get her to ring around and let you know how she gets on.

    thanks again

Best just rent various cars at periods of 3 weeks or so each.

    They could lease a car?

I don't think anyone here offers personal leasing.

    https://www.autoleasing.ie/

Op could check both of the above, the second does long term car rental

We've just billed a customer over €1,700 for a 28 day rental including all insurance to no excess, but excluding VAT. Additional driver went on this month and that's another €8 per day + VAT on top.

They are our negotiated rates based on volume business on something like a Mondeo.

    Renting long term is expensive.

If your friend has family over 25 that have a car and a regular insurance policy; they could get added to this policy and occasionally use their relations car.

The same family member could then also purchase a "classic" car. (many of which are sub €2k and far from classic but that's neither here nor there) This classic could be insured using a classic policy by the same family member for usually a couple of hundred and your friend could also be named on this policy.
Now your friend is covered to drive two different cars occasionally and as long as they swap cars every so often I don't think it could ever be classed as fronting as your friend wouldn't be driving one of them full time.

It's a morally ambiguous way of doing things but imo it's not flat out fronting so therefore it'd be vary difficult for an insurance company to void any of the policies.

At no point would your friend or their family member be without a car so it is quite possibly a viable option that could present big savings compared to an extended period of renting.

Just be aware that classic policies normally have limited mileage clauses.

Yes but the point is that it is possible to rent long term

    It's ferociously expensive though

Does that company actually include insurance though?

Can't say what the rates are, but might be worth a call.
