    Hello

I dunno if ye bordsies aware aware of this man.
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Keegan_Casey

Ballymahon was his homeland and he worked on the river inny as a millers clark.

Yeats apparently referred to him as "fenian poet of note"

He had to leave for dublin due to the failed rebellion 1867.

His most famous work was the rising of the moon.
The river he referred to was the river Inny (Down by the singing river)

Which refers to the failed march on Granard 1798. (They apparently found pike heads on the left side of the river in the 70's)

I suppose hes kinda forgotten about today but I know plans are afoot to erect a statue in his hometown of Ballymahon.

Hes worth remembering today as he was such a young man and achieved so much in a short life.

I often wonder if he had lived, he would have been better remembered. I often am amazed that he is the same age as am now, yet he achieved so much.

Do you know any 19 Century Irish poets that should be remembered?

    Mise le meas.

    Ciaran.

Interesting Lazarus. I was on a Site a while back reading all manner of poems written in that period, one specifically referring to the Battle of Deputy's Pass was very good. I'll try dig it out. I'm guessing most of those poems/songs made their first appearance in The Nation.

Great Stuff . Keep them coming.
If you could publish full poems that would be great.
