Castlebar or Westport?

    Quick question.

A few of us lads, all in our late 30's early 40's normally head off for a weekend away around this time every year, have done for ages.

We were due to go to Cork but seeing as the weekend we are going away now falls on the date of the All Ireland Replay we decided to head to Mayo.

    Question is, Castlebar or Westport?

Which would be the best place to travel and where would the best craic be had should hopefully Mayo pull off the victory?

Ive stayed in Westport previously with the wife and kids and loved it but it is very tourist orientated and we initially thought that Castlebar would be a better bet for a bit of a buzz watching the match etc.

    Open to suggestions?

One of them is the best town in the country. The other is Castlebar :D

The lads keep hounding me for another trip back - I had to go and move to England with the keys to the house.

As someone who socialises in both it's Westport every time.....

However you will get a better atmosphere in Castlebar for the match, the pubs were far busier in Castlebar for the game on Sunday and stayed busier later.

For the next game I would watch it in Castlebar and then head to Westport. If they win you should stay in Castlebar.

On the night of the draw, I think every Mayo pub was busy.

Be careful about driving between the two towns, or indeed anywhere in Mayo about time of re-play .

Apart from that, Westport is a better bet for socialising
