How to become a certified arborist?

    Hi,

If one were inclined to become an arborist /tree surgeon, how would one go about it?

Also, what are employment prospects like?

I can find chainsaw courses and climbing courses but nothing in the way of an encompassing course.

I'm in my early 40's so ideally I want something that allows me spend my days up trees until I'm no longer able and then let's me still work in the area when I'm physically not so great any more.

A course that expands my rather low knowledge levels of trees would be great. I've always loved trees and have been thinking lately that maybe I should have done something to do with forestry years ago. I thought "it's too late for that" for ages, but maybe not.

Have a look here at Merrist Wood College Guilford.

They have a few courses you may be interested in both full and part time.
usually a certified arborist would have done a 1 year certificate course, but the 2 year diploma course is where its at.

in the UK there is an arbourist on every cpuncil, sadly not so here.

Arboriculture is a slightly different career to Forestry.
