Hi all I wonder if i could get some help.

I am renting over 120 archers of land (bad land) its on a mountain.
I've set up an outdoor activity center but I am not getting the business, I don't know if I should just throw in the towel when the lease is up next year or keep at it for another while.

I was thinking that with a lot of the land not being used maybe I could do something with the land but as I am not a farmer and don't know any farmers ive no idea what I would do.

What could be done with bad land to try make some money off it ?

Rent it to a person eager to set up an outdoor activity centre? Or get in the Brennan Brothers

Depending on the type of agreement you have, you might be able to sub-let the unused part to another farmer for sheep grazing.

On letting the agreement lapse, I can't answer that for you.
Are you getting much repeat business?
Are there some days where you get a good number and you are very slack other days?
Is is mostly seasonal and very quite for the rest of the time?

You set up the business but you are not getting the business???
Do you mean you set up the business with the hope of inheriting the land and now you know this isn't going to happen?

Dont go farming it anyway because if you think an outdoor pursuits business can drain money, rearing animals will make it look like you were loaded.

I think the OP means they setup a new business (outdoor adventure) but this new venture is not getting as much business as they had hoped... and is now asking whether any bit of extra money could be made from the rough farmland...

OP - is the ground fenced for sheep do you know? If so, make some inquires to see who is a good reliable honest sheep farmer in your area, that wont dick you around, and approach them. Not sure it'll make much, but if it made anything at all for you, might be some help.

    Best of luck...

Can you sub let land like that?

A toboggan slope or artificial ski resort.
    Something different could work.

Get onto the gang like Mud Run etc see if they would rent the land

You've a great location and a fabulous looking website, it looks incredibly exciting. I would really look for some help with increasing the existing business, the platform you have put in place looks really good.

There will be nothing of any significance to me made from farming any part of this ground and animals will be a nuisance to running what you do...unless you could go paintballing sheep...

Maybe someone here would have a good PR company contact , a good leader group person etc....

Good luck and I really hope you can turn this around...

I would disagree with some advice given here
Get a herd or flock number maybe some highland cattle or belted galloway even buffolo would do ok in that type of ground and might draw interest from tourists put pictures on your website
join ANC and glas schemes and apply to national reserve for bps entitlements under new entrant contact teagasc or farm consultant to do it for you.
Horse riding might also bring more people during summer but advertise what you have got as people need to know you are there.
you wont make anything from farming but the schemes could top up any income you are making or pay for the rent.
