My mum wants to change her hardwood parquet floor as it's pretty old. She was hoping to get an engineered board or even a really good vinyl but has been told you can't cover hardwood flooring with engineered board, vinyl tiles or full hardwood.
So does anyone know what you can cover one with?
    Has anyone done it?

I've covered it with laminate. Where the old boards just weren't fit to sand and varnish. That was upstairs in bedrooms!

Thanks very much, that's good to know laminate is an option.:)

You can cover your existing floor with all of the options mentioned in the OP if you get your floor preparation right.

Your Mum needs to go to a better retailer, and said retailer should be in a position to go out to her house, and have a look.

What is the parquet floor fixed too, is there a damp proof membrane under the parquet, in some old houses bitumen was painted onto the underside of the parquet to act as a damp proofing, if this is the case it may not be a good idea to seal up the parquet by covering it with another floor as it will need to breathe to prevent it from eventually rotting
