Hi folks, I am applying for a position that is competency based and there is a limit to max characters for your reply in each category.

I have applied for several competency based applications in the past but I have never seen max words applied.

I plan on using an application that I used recently but all of my examples are nearly 200 words over the max!. I am just wondering would the potential employer disqualify me if I didn't cut down the words to max allowed as I am struggling to cut down the words without leaving out vital information.

    Thank You.

    Just apply for another job.

  • If you're going 200 words over the max I would suggest your answers are too long in the first place. Do employers want to read that much? Have you padded it out too much?

Do you know anybody who's good at writing or knows about interviewing people? Because my guess is that you have written way too much information on the form and it could be cut back. You're not going to pass or fail the interview on what you've written on the form alone. You'll have the opportunity in the interview to flesh out the examples. It's probably too late in the day now but when there was a promotion going where I used to work, I went to get help filling out the form and it was money well spent.

Thanks folks for last 2 responses. I probably do have too much in there. Will try and cut it back down.

Have you ever seen other forms like it? If it's of any help, they're also known as Behavioural Interviews.
