TalkTalk Huawei Youview Box and RTE Subtitles

Whenever I record a film on RTE1 channel 52 from the Brougher transmitter on the Youview box the subtitles are a fraction behind the dialogue and often are available on screen for such a short time that they cannot be read. As a person with hearing difficulty, this is very frustrating. So, I was wondering if the fault lies with TalkTalk box or with RTE subtitling. I'm hoping that someone with the same model of box would record part of a film from RTE1 channel 52 and let me know if their box behaves the same as mine. And maybe someone with a Humax Youview box would oblige as well. Thanks.

It's the RTE subtitling that's the problem, it happened with me on a different receiver when I could get a signal from Brougher

It's fine on saorview (picked up directly from the south), and I would be surprised if many/any areas which receive signal from Brougher cannot receive Saorview from one of the transmitters in the Republic with the correct antenna.
You'll also get six more TV channels, nine more radio stations, and both RTE1 and RTE2 in HD if you get a southern signal, and it won't have any impact on your current channels from the north.

Is this evident on live viewing as well ?

The only technical reason this could be possibly occur is if the FPS was different for the Minimux. Must be a lot higher if they are that fast.

I'm afraid the Huawei box doesn't support subtitles from the Saorview transmitters.

They're teletext subtitles on Saorview (and on sky) and DVB subtitles on Freeview, so unless there's some delay in converting them?

Possibly. Saorview Spec covers EBU and DVB.

If the Huawei box didnt support teletext subtitling it wouldnt display it at all. Surely the subtitling on the minimux mirrors the Freeview spec.

Email below for subtitling problems. You might want to specify the problem exists on the NI minimux.

I did some experimenting last weekend. I checked both RTE1 and RTE2 viewing both live and recorded, both movies and tv series. The results were the same for both live viewing and recorded, for both movies and series. But here's the surprising thing; while the results for RTE1 were as I described in my original post, the RTE2 subtitles were spot on!

Thanks for the email address. I'll contact them and see if there is any response.

    Update:

I emailed RTE subtitles at the address given above but they were no help. After several emails back and forth I came to the conclusion that their remit was to concern themselves with the content of subtitles and not with technical problems.

I then emailed rtenltech@rte.ie and after a delay of several days they got back to me to say they have passed on my observations to the relevant Freeview transmission operator in Northern Ireland who looks after this transmitter. (Who would that be?)

Also, I would be interested to know if the problem is only with the Brougher Mountain transmitter (my local transmitter) or if it is evident on the other Northern Ireland transmitters that carry RTE as well.

    Arqiva I'd assume.
