    Hi there
Lookong for some advice here about primary school teaching ... I'm stuck in a job that I hate at the moment and I'm seriously considering doing primary teaching but I'm. Not sure what the best route to go is.. I'm 28 at the moment and I looked at my LC results last night and saw I did get a C in hons irish and English and D in maths but wouldn't be able to speak a word of Irish now... what is the best route or where should I start in getting this underway??

I'm not certain, but seeing as you're 28 wouldn't you be a mature student and not be assessed on your LC results?

Just an example, the Primary Teaching course in Marino states that 'Applicants who are 23 year of age, or over, on 1 January of the year of entry to the Institute, may apply for entry to the Bachelor in Education or the Bachelor in Science programmes on mature grounds. Mature applicants apply to the CAO by 1 February.'

My best piece of advice is to do some observation before you do anything else. What you remember primary teaching to be may well be very different from the reality today.

Primary jobs are exceptionally hard to come by and permanent ones are even rarer.

I went back and did primary teaching as a mature student. Any questions, just send me a pm and I'll gladly help you if I can

Is there any advantage in having a M.Ed in stead of a B.Ed?

Also, how difficult is it to get into the M.Ed? Is it easier to get into from the BSc in Education or Early Childhood Education, or is it just as easy to go from an Arts degree?

    Talk to a few teachers

I know some teachers that would not recommend it as a career, due to the increasing paperwork being imposed by the department and schools and the extra stresses coming from every angle
