What are people's opinion about mulching mowers for topping rushes etc are they better than using toppers or ordinary mowers .what are the issues lwhen using them eg do you need the weather to be really dry to mulch.are they the same thing as flail mowers.what are the typical cost New and second-hand.

Id say they are the ideal item for rushes and rough topping, side shift very handy for working round fencing.

But they are expensive and more HP to drive so more diesel cost compared to topping. I'd say you'd need one in addition to a standard topper rather than instead.

I'd say the real advantage of them would be if you had alot of road verges to keep cut along with breasting a few road hedges

Very slow compared to a topper or mower but get a better finish as the rush is mulched and works like fertiliser you will have a quick return to green grass.

Yea, but if you have rush cover that requires mulching them your not going to top it very fast either, regular topper will choke if the travel speed is too high.

I find the old disk mower flies through heavy rushes the flail mower works but you have to crawl in first low in rushes
its a great job in briars or furse though

Yea but it blankets the ground with them, mulcher speeds up decomposition which is very attractive.
