contemplating not getting an implant

    Hey all,
I had a large infection and broken tooth so only option was an implant. its for the very back lower tooth.
I got the extraction done and had augmentation done. I've paid for that and the next step in Jan is to open up, insert the screw and then later on put on the crown/implant/whatever you want to call it.
Thats going to cost another 1250.
I've gotten use to not having the tooth now and so I'm thinking of just pocketing the money and leaving it as is.
Am I mad? I've been told that not having the bottom tooth as resistance will cause the top tooth to eventually come out due to gravity but not sure if that is cock and bull.
What do you think peeps? save the cash and run or finish the job?

It's really up to you what you want to do, you weigh up the benefits (better chewing, prevent over eruption of tooth above and drift/tipping of tooth beside) and drawbacks (treatment and cost). Augmentation bulks up the bone in the extraction site and in the short term prevents excessive bone loss due to post extraction resorption (shrinkage) of the bone. If you delay, there is a risk that in a years time the bone needed to hold the implant will be gone.

Ultimately your decision will depend on how much you miss the tooth and how much you want to replace it. You may have wasted a couple of hundred euro on augmentation if you don't finish the job.
