Mira Supreme replaced by Mira Vie - cost?

I really need advice. My old Mira Supreme unit recently started running continuously unless turned off at the pull-cord which (I suppose?) closed the water valve.

A local lad was recommended, had a look, recommended replacing by a Mira Vie 8.5 (I know nothing about plumbing so gave him the go-ahead). He called "an electrician mate" who looked into the Supreme, declared it unfit for use, flicked the relevant switch on my Mains Board and said he would return to check the electrics when the plumber had fitted the new shower-unit.

Plumber came today, took Supreme off, put Vie (bought and brought by him) up, Advised shower until must not be used until his electrician mate checks it out. Plumber asked for €300 cash-in-hand and was casual about broken tiles which leave 3" openings between edge of Vie and bathroom wall, will come back another time with silicone sealant for unit. The €300 covers only the replacement. Electrician mate's 5 minute visit is "a separate payment" and likely to be "about €150 cash".

    Location Mayo.

Is €450 the going price for a job of this kind? It involved direct substitution of one box for another. Everything else was functioning properly.

You had an antique and needed it replaced. You did need an REC to make sure all was up to standard. I assume they had to upgrade the tripswitch / fuse.
300 euro would be a good price for a plumber to take a broken electric off the wall & supply & fit a new one
Price sounds OK to me. Remember that the REC has given you a cert for the works carried out on the fusebox.

Cash In hand is illegal. You shouldn't do it & I assume that the plumber will actually charge more inc vat

Agree Sleeper - my question should have been "Is €450 + VAT - retail price of unit (VAT paid on purchase) the going price for this".
