    Hi,

I started a TUS scheme a few months ago. I was told i was entitled to the fuel allownce. I got the form today but the social welfare office said they cant process it. Now i have been reading about people on jobsbridge that never had fuel allowence not being able to claim it. Does anyone know if this also aplies to TUS schemes also(I only work 20 hours a week)

    Thanks

If memory serves me right TUS will pay the fuel allowance if you had been entitled to it on jobseekers.

Jobseeker's Allowance (JA) for 391days (15 months). Fuel Allowance is payable to people who have been getting a jobseeker’s payment for 391 days, if they satisfy the relevant qualifying conditions. Days of unemployment on Jobseeker's Benefit count towards the 391 days if the Jobseeker’s Benefit claim was immediately before the award of Jobseeker’s Allowance. You can keep your Fuel Allowance if you move from One-Parent Family Payment, Carer’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Transitional payment to JA.

The rest can be found here

    Eastbono is correct.

If you had it on your jobseekers claim it carries over to your Tús payment.

Sounds like you didn't have enough days on jobseekers to qualify

I was unemployed for 3 years. The social welfare said they cant proccess my application because im no longer on their system. My TUS supervisor said he cant process it. Usually if a person is receiving fuel allowence and starts on A TUS program it gets carried over. But there seems to be a grey with a person eligible for fuel allowence but started a TUS program without applying before hand.

Im left in limbo about it.

Before you commenced on Tus did you have to get a form completed by your SW office? On this form it would have asked if you had and entitlement to Fuel Allowance. You need to push this with the Tus implementing body if you were in receipt of fuel allowance from sw last year.

    See below.

    2.11. Secondary benefits

Participation does not result in loss of secondary benefits such as medical card, fuel allowance, back-to-school clothing and footwear allowance. Entitlement to secondary benefits will be subject to the usual assessment processes operated by the appropriate Scheme Area of the Department of Social Protection or relevant Authority. Participants on Tús will still be required to meet the terms and conditions attached to the secondary benefits, as set out in order to continue to qualify for any such payments. Entitlement to fuel allowance cannot be established after you commence on Tús.

Ah now I see your problem. Have a look at the last sentence on 2.11 Secondary benefits...it reads Entitlement to fuel allowance cannot be established after you commence on Tus. Unfortunately you will not be able to get fuel allowance whilst on Tus.

Where is that info from on secondary benefits that you posted. Is it from the citizens info page?

    Thanks

I never received fuel allowance before. My partner started Tus last September and we received the fuel allowance in the October.

Do you have a claim separate to your partners. It may also be that case that if he remained on JA then he would have had an entitlement to fuel allowance but the OP states that he didnt apply for Fuel allowance while on JA even though he had an entitlement and this is the deciding factor in his case.
