Traffic getting to Dublin airport when bus strike is on

    I don't know if I'm posting in the right place, so mods please move if necessary.

    Not being from Dublin, I was just wondering what the traffic situation is like getting to the airport when there is a bus strike - we would be travelling up by car from Co. Waterford. We have a flight on Sat 24th Sept at. 5.40pm. Usually it would take us approx 2 hrs - from previous peoples experience, what is the traffic like from M50 to airport like when a strike is in action? Is it very heavy and what kind of extra time would you advise we give ourselves? Or are traffic problems more likely to be just in the city centre?

    Thanks :)

    I think on a Saturday you should be ok

    If it was 5.40pm friday the rush hour traffic on a strike day might be an issue

    I'd rather add a couple of hours on and risk being early and having a cup of coffee than leaving 2 hours to get there and something happening en route.

    Thanks tatranska, the most we can leave is an hour earlier than planned, which will give us just over 3 hrs to get to the airport - I think I will book the fast track security check too, just incase we are caught for time and the queues are crazy (not used it before, but hope it's of use).

    There are currently no strikes planned for Saturdays, so no effect at all. {IGNORE THIS - I AM AN IDIOT}

    Apologies! Was sure it was Thursday/Friday strikes all the way.

    Funny how they're not striking on a Sunday when they get €48 an hour!

    Fast track is at the back wall of the check in hall, about the same level as the entrance from the 2nd floor of the carpark.

    Ryanair also have a self checking now which is Fantastic.
