    Hi,

I'm looking at buying a car in the UK and need to run a few history checks on cars on my short list.

What would be the best value & most comprehensive website to use to do this? Ideally one that has a package where you can run 3 or 5 checks would be great.

I see Autotrader allow 5 checks for £25.

    Thanks

Do the free mot history check first anyway.

Thanks, I've done that but it doesn't tell me much other than that it has an MOT due to expire in 2017.

There are two checks. Do this one.

Thanks very much, that's a lot more helpful. It failed an MOT because of Lights out of alignment and there was a caution about nearly worn out tyres, both of which I'll discuss with the dealer.

One thing that I'm unsure of is this one though:

    "nearside Headlamp insecure (1.7.3)"

Is this anything to be worried about? Do they tend to get insecure over time or would there need to have been a bump/crash to make it insecure?

Lights out of alignment and a loose headlight would point to minor damage. They're usually held on with plastic lugs which can snap if there's a small tip.

If it passed again, the problem is provably solved but it would be a pointer towards inspecting the front end closely.
