Laptop screen damaged, VGA and HDMI ports not working.

The screen is shattered due to it being slammed shut.
After this happened, the VGA and HDMI ports stopped working.
When turned on, the screen does light up, but obviously nothing can be properly seen.

I checked the RAM and HDD. Both are working.
Disconnected the screen from the motherboard, but it still won't work through VGA.

    Any ideas?

Some laptops wont output to the external monitor without hitting a special function (fn) key and usually an F key. Have you tried this? The laptop could also not be booting... but hopefully that's not the case?

Some laptops have a sensor to detect when the lid is shut that automatically switches to external display mode if one is connected - check whether the laptop has one and if it's been damaged.

As Alantrainor says, sometimes you need a keyboard shortcut to toggle the external displays - usually Fn + F6 or Fn + F8 will do, but check the keyboard layout.

If none of that works, the only things I can think of are connecting a working screen from another laptop of the same model, or trying one of those USB or ExpressCard external GPUs (effectively both checking whether the laptop's GPU is working).

    Fn + F5. Thanks, folks.
