Dealership unable to repair car

Has anyone ever had the experience of a dealership not being able to repair a car under manufacturers warranty? My car has been with the dealer for nearly three weeks, and they have tried a few part replacements (New timing belt, oil pump) to try and alleviate a noise coming from the engine. The noise still persists.

They have been very good in terms of customer service etc - Just curious as to the next steps if they are unable to repair it. Its a 142 reg with 40k on the clock.

You may get a replacement of similar or even chance of upgrade with some money to them. Really depends they may flog it off and cut loses on it if they do take it back.

They only have to repair so can take quite some time but if persists they may have no option but take back.

I'd say they will be guided by manufacturer if it cannot be diagnosed on site. The worst option as far as manufacturer is concerned is throwing a new engine at it.
From your point of view, if they have given you an equivalent or better loan car to use, I wouldn't be overly concerned however I would keep in touch and wouldn't be overly happy with them replacing random engine internals if they decide to go that route without firm diagnosis.

Sounds like they have a bunch of pats changers and not one diagnostician in the house. I d call the manufacture and open a case. i.e.: kia Ireland, bmw Ireland, etc.

Agree here, go straight to their Irish HQ

If you do go to their HQ in Ireland about, I would let the dealer service manager know as a courtesy. Nothing worse than looking like a dick in these situations. Keeps an element of good faith

Purely looking for advice on potentials here- keeping everything very much above board with the dealership - in fact today they had the brands regional specialist looking at the car - hoping to hear some good news monday. They have been amazing to deal with so far.

I know someone who's car had a slight oil leak and following 3 unsuccessful attempts to locate it, VW replaced the engine under warranty

4 weeks to isolate a noise from air con pump. You have to wonder.
