    And

    http://www.bbc.com/news/health-35658650

So one set of scientist can fertilise an egg with stem cells and another set of scientists can create an embryo without an egg. Quite a feat but why is this experimental research carried out ? What are they hoping to achieve that can benefit mankind?

May allow infertile men to have children that share their DNA.

Maybe they're infertile for a reason?

Any ethical person would be working on the opposite - trying to make sure humans would never plague the earth again.

Bit of a crass comment that. Would you blame someone for any other disability they may have, maybe tell someone that they were born blind for a reason?

Presumably to give people who can't conceive a better chance of achieving their dream?

Well, yeah, there's generally a reason someone's infertile. They go to a doctor to find out if there's any way around it.

Also, the practical benefits are presumably so if a couple is infertile, etcetera. Or the clone army, could go either way.

Well they would be. Not some daft reason born of superstition, but there would be a reason. If it was a genetic one that could be screened for then it would hardly be crass to a) screen for it and b) try to avoid it. Disability should NOT be a blame thing, neither should it be some sort of holy honourable thing. The world would be the better if there were no disabilities.

As for fertility? Yep there could be reasons there where it might be better to not reproduce and cause further issues for the next generation. It would depend on the reason for the infertility.

Rejoice in the awareness of feeling stupid, for that’s how you end up learning new things. If you’re not aware you’re stupid, you probably are.

And who gets to define what counts as "disabled" and not? Could go down a very nasty road if you're not careful.

Well the obvious clear as the nose on your face disabilities would count easily enough. Blindness, deafness, Downs, congenital defects etc.
