Crazy noise when immersion on

Hi, I recently moved into a rented house, there are two showers, both just work on hot water from the tank. ( They are brutal tbf!)
Anyway, when I have the immersion on, after about 20 mins, it starts to make unbelievable noises. Like it's boiling and about to burst. Also I can hear another noise, like water either coming or going from the tank into the attic tank.
    It's actually pretty scary.
It's stops as soon as i switch it off.

Any ideas? This couldn't be safe could it? Doesnt sound it!
    Should I inform landlord?
The last place had immersion but never made noise like this!

Is the immersion heater gas or electric?

    I presume electric?
    How would I know?

It sounds like a faulty older type immersion heater without an overheat stat that's allowing the water to boil, it needs to be replaced.

Post a pic of what you are referring to as the immersion and also of the switch you are using to turn it on.

Had this a couple of years ago, the thermostat was faulty allowing the immersion to keep heating right up to boiling. Got a plumber in to sort it, easy fix in the end and not too expensive.
