Woodworm in shelf

As the thread title says I have a shelf in my shed and I just noticed the dust and holes in it.
It's a heavy shelf, 2no 9x1.5 inch boards side by side and mounted on steel brackets on a concrete wall. I'd prefer if possible not to have to destroy it.
Just wondering if I gave it a good dose of creosote substitute (which I have handy) would it kill it and prevent recurrence? Not worried about the smell!

    Any advice welcome.
