Does this work that if you get X amounts of red and/or yellow cards accruing over X time you can get a ban and possibly a site wide ban, tried looking for the "rules" but no luck.

    What is the format?

A warning is worth 0 points.

An infraction is worth 1 points.

A point expires after 10 days.

If you have 9 or more active/unexpired points an automated siteban kicks in.

Cheers for that, always wondered how it works.

That's the automated system. It's another matter entirely if an admin takes note of a spate of issues with a user.
