How is the market fairing for van insurance with other readers of boards. I got quoted overall €1000 for a fresh hatchback car van...I won't name the insurer in case it's not a done thing on this. I am with them for years, it makes no sense to quote those figures

Thanks Buford T :-) FBD I was referring to whilst they are very good to deal in the event of a claim etc its an awful lot of money to pay out on a car van. Il keep shopping around, if I get around the 500 mark or less il definitely be smiling again:-)

I was with FBD for a few years as well and they wanted 1000 this year up from 500 and something 2 year ago. I went with insure my van this year and got it for 780.

Ye are lucky! I made the mistake(in insurance terms) of leaving the country for a few years to see how things were done abroad. I am now trying to get insurance for a new caddy for work...they are crucifying me as any previous insurance in Ireland is >2years ago so no no-claims bonus. Alot of quotes at >5500e. Finally have one at 2470e. I'm 28 years old, not a child. It's outrageous. Spare a thought when getting quoted in the hundreds rather than thousands.

If you have an old no claims bonus might be worth your while ringing kenco insurance or quote me might also worth your while checking out

fbd don't want the business judging by the amount of people I hear complaining about their renewal letters from them this year. Look else where op.

Fbd told me when I requested quote for van insurance that they are concentrating on farmers jeeps and not really interested in quoting for other types

Kennco point blank refused to insure a van without 3 years no claims. You wouldn't believe the nightmare. If anyone is thinking of going abroad for >12months I would advise either continuing your policy while gone or else add yourself as a named driver on a parent/sibling/friends car so you have some sort of Irish insurance continuously. It's a disgrace how hard it has been to even get quotes. Jesus I am 28 not 18! I've never had a claim or a penalty point in any country!

FBD refused to give me a quote. My mother, the quintessential Irish Mammy, got involved and rang them, pulled the "We have jeep and farm insured with you" card. They quoted me 2600e but then when I went to accept the quote they became extremely difficult and are looking for so much paperwork from other countries it would take me a week to get it all! They don't want to know about vans, especially for people that have been abroad.

Ffs that is an outrageous figure to have to pay lad, people are being penalised for returning to this country to work in every way possible so. I wouldn't blame anyone for going abroad and the way insurance premiums are looking for next year there will be more people than ever leaving as a car or van is a necessity for employment if living outside of big towns or cities and with a premium like yours lad I really hope for you that it returns to a more reasonable figure in time to come. Rip of Republic:-( Back we were 18 was long enough to be paying in thousands. Thanks for taking the time to contribute to the thread I initiated and wish you the very best with your work and New Caddy.

Same as that we have farm, sheds, jeep insured with them, had no claims but the quote they gave me for van was still 300 more than next company. Talk about looking after people who were loyal to them!!

So true Salrub. We have all the above and dwelling house insured with them. Talk about a kick in the ass. Insure my Van seem to be the most competitive on the market broking for Zurich.

Got the car insurance renewal today. Up almost 200 euro. FBD.
3rd party F&T, screen protection and NCB protection, 860 Euro for a 01 Passat thats not worth much more than the premium.
30 years a customer and no claims. I also see that a full NCB has somehow became 50%, whereas it used to be 70%.

I only noticed the 50% figure this evening on the quotation they sent me. Your head would be addled from ringing so many insurers for a finish and waiting for call backs etc. My annual pet hate every year but who likes parting with money at the best of times:-)

Go to a broker either online or on the street. They will find you the best quote
Do it for this year then you will know what's out there for next year

Go to a broker and get them to serch for you. What company have they listed as an insurer. Go on line and get quotes from Aviva, Allianz, FBD etc. Zurich is one of the best trough a broke. Also if you are in your 20's or 30's get you fater or Mother named on the policy and or an older brother or sister. Often this can reduce the cost.
