Should my wifes American pension affect my JA payment

I am on JA, claiming for my wife and daughter who is in college, and my wife receives a €35 a week pension from the USA.
I thought she could earn a small amount per week without it affecting my payment, but they are deducting the entire amount from my allowance. Is this right?

Yes that is correct. Pensions are deducted euro for euro. Pension isnt earnings from employment which is assessed differently.
