Referred to job path after less than a month unemployed

I finished up in my last job less than a month ago. I got a letter in the post this morning saying that I have to attend a job path group meeting next week. Is there anyway of getting out of it? I thought job path was for the long term unemployed. I have no issue taking any help they offer, but the centre is 40miles away from my house. I'm worried about the cost of getting there if they decide to bring me in on a regular basis.

Is this your nearest office? If so, I'd go and see what it is all about. If you are unable to get a job and are called again, I'd ring and talk it through with them. It's best to appear willing rather than ignore them or make excuses not to go.

from my understanding they pay you mileage if you are a certain distance away.

maybe give them a buzz in advance.

Thanks guys :) Unfortunately it is my nearest office. I'll go in and see what it's all about. If it's going to be a regular thing I'll ask is there any travel allowance available. I have absolutely no problem with it in theory it's just the fact that the cost will add up pretty quick if I have to be going in regularly. On the other hand I suppose I might get lucky and get a job out of it!

It's probably just one of those meetings where they tell you what 'help' they have available to you and that will be it.
