Used Car Recommondation

Hi All, I recently bought a Ford Focus and it has given me nothing but trouble, long story short I need to sell it fast and get another car.

Has anyone any recommendation? I am willing to spend €10K max on a used car. I do about 400-miles a week with work so need a diesel and something maybe over the 1.6ltr mark.

I am looking at Toyota Auris/Audi A3 and a Fiesta or Skoda Octavia

    Any thought?

    Thanks

Fiesta is quite a bit smaller than the others listed.
If you're looking at the same size as the focus, a ceed or i30 should be considered.

The Auris is a safe enough bet. But they're pretty slow and usually not very well equipped. The A3 and Octavia are harder to buy than the rest IMO as for your budget there are so so many bad ones out there.

That's just it! I bought a focus with a 2year NCT on it and low mileage thinking it would be OK, boy was I wrong! My OH has a Skoda and never really had a problem. Lots recommending the Auris also. Auris are nice... When they don't break down!

    They're all nice shur!

If it were a family member, I'd be steering them towards a ceed or i30. They have a very robust engine, they don't tend to have issues with turbos, most older ones don't have a dual mass flywheel or a particle filter, parts are a little expensive compared to Ford but you shouldn't need as many.

NCT means nothing in reliability terms.

The NCT is a certificate of roadworthiness at the time it was tested, it is not a mechanical worthiness test. Any used car you buy needs to be inspected by a mechanic who knows his stuff otherwise you could end up with another lemon.

Hyundai i30.... Reliable cars? They seem great value

Yes, they are very reliable. Kia Ceed is the same basic car so include these in your search too.
