The duties on Spirits here are much higher than in the UK.

I send my uncle up with his free pass and a wheelie suitcase. He loves the day out and goes with his pal also on the free pass. lol. Sainsburys in Newry is a good bet.

Plenty of clanking of bottles on the way back though!

And he doesn't drink, so I give him a proper list!

Only do it coming up to Christmas and if there is a big party going on or something. Wine and spirits, no beer, not worth it.

    Must give him a shout!

    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/excise/duties/excise-duty-rates.html

42.57 here, per litre of alcohol

    70cl, 40% = 11.92 euro

    https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/rates-and-allowance-excise-duty-alcohol-duty/alcohol-duty-rates-from-24-march-2014#spirits

27.66 GBP per litre of pure alcohol

    About 34.58 euro per litre.

    70cl, 40% = about 9.68 euro

    About 2.24 higher.

Could parcel motel/wizard be used to get this delivered?

Doubt it. You still have to pay duty if importing more than a litre, even from within the EU.

pretty sure that litre limit is only for legitimate gifts. In other threads people had parcelmotel refuse alcohol. Others has groupon wine deals seized.

A few years ago there was some dodgy crowd who would let you order groceries from NI and have it delivered to a depot (possibly house) then they drove a van or truck down with your groceries. Not sure if they are still going, some supermarkets blacklisted them.
